Digital Terrain Model

Scanning for terrain heights, slopes, and shapes

A Digital Terrain Model (DTM) provides a digital representation of the natural or built terrain surface. It serves as the foundation for precise planning, construction surveys, and visualizations.

Terrain at a glance

The process for the 3D terrain model

1

Efficient aerial and ground surveying

We survey the relevant area extensively, quickly, and contact-free. Depending on the nature and size of the property, we use state-of-the-art RTK surveying drones (for rugged, vast terrain) or terrestrial 3D laser scanners (for urban or densely built-up areas). The result is a dense 3D point cloud that captures every elevation level, every edge, and every detail of the surroundings.

2

Intelligent data filtering (classification)

Using our post-processing software, we completely filter out distracting elements (trees, cars, fences, etc.). We "clean" the point cloud so that only the pure ground points remain. This reveals the true topography of the terrain.

3

Surface model generation & handover

We create the actual DTM from the cleaned data. The ground points are mathematically connected to form a closed triangular network (mesh) or a regular grid. You receive a precise digital planning basis from us, including contour lines, slope analyses, and breaklines – custom-tailored and exported in all common CAD and GIS formats (e.g., DXF, DWG, or REFC) for your direct further processing.

Benefits of DGM
